A Cry for Help!

Readers and fellow book bloggers,
I need your help and advice! There has been recent major life changes in my life and it has put a damper on my blogging and reading. I don't want to give up either of these. But I haven't read a book that really grabbed my attention since... well, since Hex Hall. And now, my blogging and reviewing feel more like work so I constantly find myself procrastinating and spending my days on that Godforsaken but ever so amazing Pinterest! (here my Pinterest BTW: http://pinterest.com/prettyniftyrdr/)
I have come across a few blog posts in the past and I was hoping if you know or have authored any such posts to share them with me. Or even just a few quick tips in the comments. Or if you want to be more specific you can always email me!
Thank you for your help!

I think we all go through cycles with reading. One possible suggestion is to join an online book club like Forbidden Book Club so that you're having interaction with other bloggers and sharing opinions. It's a fun way to read powerful books and be a part of the awesome YA book blogger/author/reader community. Here's the link: http://www.readingteen.net/2011/12/be-part-of-our-traveling-book-club.html

If I keep picking up novels and can't finish them, I will first take a break for a day. Sometimes that's all it takes. If I'm still not in the mood, I'll find some short books, novellas, etc. And read them for FUN. I always go with something short though. They are low-commitment so I can often push my through them. I never go into with the intention to review them. (I keep anthologies around for this purpose to! I'll read a story or two and bookmark my spot.)

I also treat myself weekly with at least one book that isn't "required" to read. I read fast, so that may not work for you. You could do every two weeks. You could do a day a month! On that day I read something I don't think will fit my blog, something I've bought or borrowed from the library. If I'm simply not in the mood to read, then I have a "free day" already scheduled in that I can watch TV and just relax.

For reviewing, I've gotten bad about this w/ a death in the family..I've been slacking. I typically sit down every weekend and work on everything for the next week. Not memes, but guest posts, reviews, interviews...This way I have a full week in between doing posts/scheduling that I can spend doing "fun" things. If for some reason one review is super hard to get together I stop, work on the next post and go back to it when I'm done with everything. (If you don't take notes when reading or when you finish, you'll probably want to if you decide to do this. Otherwise it can get a bit confusing!)

I think the main thing is to remember it's fun! If you feel like you need a break - take one! I took almost two full months off and just scheduled a few guest posts and a review here and there to keep my blog "active". Some people take a full hiatus. :)

I know exactly how you feel. I just went on a long vacation from blogging because it felt like work, but now I'm pumped up again and ready to get back on the ball. If you need a break, don't feel bad about taking one. They help a lot.

Yep, I know how you feel. I get in slumps too, especially when I'm feeling overwhelmed. Just do what you want. It's your blog and you can run it how you want, no need to adhere to anyone else's standards. This should be something you ENJOY. :)
